Manual handling is a critical aspect of construction work, involving the lifting, carrying, and moving of loads by hand or bodily force. It is a common activity on construction sites, but it also poses significant risks if not managed properly.
Injuries from manual handling are among the most common in the construction industry. These can range from minor strains and sprains to more severe injuries like fractures and chronic musculoskeletal disorders.
The focus of this talk is on preventing these injuries through effective organisation of work and the use of mechanisation. By planning ahead and using the right tools, we can significantly reduce the need for manual handling.
Under UK law, employers have a duty to protect workers from the risks of manual handling. This includes providing training, equipment, and safe systems of work. Employees also have a responsibility to follow safe practises and report any hazards.
Today, we aim to equip you with practical knowledge and strategies to handle materials safely, reduce the risk of injury, and ensure a safer working environment for everyone.
