During the demolition and masonry work, dust generation is a significant concern. To mitigate this, water suppression techniques shall be employed to dampen dust at the source. Additionally, dust extraction systems will be utilised where feasible. Workers must wear appropriate respiratory protective equipment (RPE) that is fit-tested and suitable for the task.
Brick and blockwork involves substantial manual handling tasks. To prevent musculoskeletal injuries, mechanical aids such as trolleys and hoists should be used wherever possible. Workers must be trained in proper lifting techniques and encouraged to work in pairs or teams when handling heavy materials.
The use of demolition hammers and other power tools can result in high noise levels. Hearing protection must be worn by all personnel operating or working near noisy equipment. Noise assessments will be conducted to ensure compliance with exposure limits.
Prolonged use of vibrating tools, such as demolition hammers, can lead to hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS). Workers must be provided with anti-vibration gloves and adhere to recommended exposure times. Regular breaks should be scheduled to minimise exposure.
Contact with cement-based materials can cause skin irritation or burns. Workers must wear suitable gloves and long-sleeved clothing to protect against skin contact. Barrier creams should be available on site, and washing facilities must be provided for immediate cleansing.
