Only individuals holding a valid CISRS (Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme) card are permitted to erect, alter, or dismantle scaffolding structures. Prior to commencing work, all operatives must attend a site-specific induction, which will cover the unique risks associated with the scaffolding activities on this project. This induction will include a detailed briefing on the specific types of scaffolding being used, such as staircase towers, non-complex and complex scaffolds, Kwikstage scaffolding, and guardrails. They are responsible for verifying the competence of their team members and ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with the latest industry standards and best practises. Regular toolbox talks will be conducted to address any changes in procedures or to reinforce critical safety measures. These talks will focus on specific tasks such as the installation of bridge sections, waste chutes, and wall anchors, ensuring that all personnel are aware of the correct procedures and potential hazards. In the event of any changes to personnel or if additional training is required, it is imperative that these are addressed immediately to maintain the highest standards of safety and competence on site. All personnel involved in scaffolding activities must undergo a comprehensive site induction prior to commencing work. This induction will cover the specific risks associated with scaffolding tasks, including: Training will be provided by a competent person and will include: Attendance at the induction is mandatory, and records of attendance will be maintained. Refresher training sessions will be conducted periodically to ensure ongoing competence. All personnel involved in scaffolding activities must utilise designated access points to enter and exit the work area. Permits must be visibly displayed at the worksite and reviewed daily to ensure ongoing compliance with safety standards. Any changes to the scope of work or site conditions necessitate a re-evaluation and re-issuance of permits. Failure to adhere to these procedures will result in immediate cessation of work until compliance is achieved. All tools and equipment utilised in scaffolding activities must be inspected prior to use to ensure they are in good working condition. Defective tools must be immediately removed from service and reported to the site supervisor. All personnel involved in scaffolding activities must adhere to the following project-specific procedures regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hard Hats: Mandatory at all times to protect against falling objects during erection, dismantling, and modification of scaffolding structures. Finally, a communication plan will be in place to inform occupiers of any significant activities that may impact their safety or access, ensuring they are aware of the schedule and nature of the works being undertaken. All personnel involved in scaffolding activities must be asbestos aware and have completed the necessary training to identify potential asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). Prior to commencing any scaffolding work, a thorough asbestos survey must be conducted by a competent person to identify any ACMs in the vicinity of the work area. If ACMs are identified, scaffolding activities must be planned to ensure no disturbance occurs. In case of accidental disturbance of ACMs, all work must cease immediately, and the area should be evacuated. The incident must be reported to the site manager and an asbestos specialist should be contacted to assess and remediate the situation before work can resume. All procedures and findings related to asbestos management must be documented and communicated to all relevant parties involved in the scaffolding activities. The monitoring of scaffolding activities shall be conducted through a structured approach to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. All waste generated from scaffolding activities shall be managed in accordance with the following procedures: Segregation of Waste: Waste materials, including off-cuts, damaged components, and packaging, must be segregated at the point of generation. Separate containers shall be provided for metal, wood, and general waste to facilitate recycling and disposal. Collection and Storage: Waste containers shall be clearly labelled and located at designated points on site. These containers must be regularly checked and emptied to prevent overflow. Transportation: Waste shall be transported from the work area to the storage containers using appropriate manual handling techniques or mechanical aids to prevent injury. Care must be taken to avoid spillage during transportation. Disposal: Arrangements shall be made with a licenced waste carrier for the removal of waste from site. Documentation confirming the legal disposal of waste must be retained for inspection. Minimisation: Efforts should be made to minimise waste by accurately measuring materials before cutting and reusing components where possible. This not only reduces waste but also contributes to cost efficiency. Hazardous Waste: Any hazardous waste, such as contaminated materials or substances used in scaffold maintenance, must be identified and handled in accordance with relevant regulations. Special containers and disposal methods are required for such waste. Monitoring and Reporting: Regular inspections shall be conducted to ensure compliance with waste management procedures. Review: The Site Supervisor will review the proposed amendment in consultation with the Health and Safety Advisor to assess risks and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Approval: The amendment must be approved by the Project Manager. No changes are to be enacted without this authorisation. Communication: Once approved, the amendment will be communicated to all relevant personnel during a toolbox talk. This ensures that all team members are aware of the changes and understand their roles and responsibilities. Implementation: The authorised changes will be implemented as per the revised method statement. Monitoring: The Site Supervisor will monitor the implementation of the changes to ensure compliance and effectiveness. Appropriate PPE, such as gloves, masks, and eye protection, must be worn when handling hazardous substances. The specific type of PPE required will be determined by the risk assessment and SDS.
In the event of a spill, immediately implement spill containment procedures. Use appropriate spill kits to contain and clean up the substance safely. Report any spills to the site supervisor without delay.
Dispose of hazardous substances in accordance with local regulations and guidelines. Ensure that waste containers are clearly marked and that disposal is carried out by authorised personnel.
