Operators are required to perform daily pre-use inspections of all plant tools and equipment, including scissor lifts, cherry pickers, dumpers, 360 excavators, telehandlers, forklifts, and Hiab/lorry loaders. These inspections must be documented and any defects reported immediately to the site supervisor.
Site supervisors shall conduct regular spot checks during operations to verify that equipment is being used in accordance with the method statement and manufacturer’s guidelines. Particular attention should be paid to the correct use of safety features and adherence to load limits.
Regular audits will be carried out to ensure that all personnel operating plant tools and equipment hold the necessary certifications and have received appropriate training. Records of training and competency must be maintained and reviewed periodically.
Monitoring of environmental conditions such as weather, ground stability, and visibility is essential. Operations involving plant tools and equipment must be adjusted or suspended if conditions are deemed unsafe.
All incidents, near misses, or unsafe practises observed during the use of plant tools and equipment must be reported immediately. An investigation will be conducted to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
