Before any rope access work begins, a visual inspection of the work area must be carried out by a competent person to confirm the absence of visible ACMs. If any suspect materials are identified, work must cease immediately, and the site supervisor must be informed.
The work area must be clearly demarcated and isolated to prevent unauthorised access. Warning signs indicating the potential presence of asbestos should be prominently displayed.
In the event that ACMs are disturbed during rope access activities, all work must stop immediately. Personnel must vacate the area and report the incident to the site supervisor. An emergency response plan must be in place, detailing the steps to safely manage and contain any asbestos release.
All operatives must have received asbestos awareness training. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protective equipment (RPE), must be worn if there is any risk of exposure to asbestos fibres.
Clear communication channels must be established to ensure that all team members are aware of the procedures related to asbestos management. Regular briefings should be conducted to reinforce the importance of adhering to these procedures.

Any team member identifying a need for amendment must report it immediately to the site supervisor. This includes changes in techniques, equipment, or personnel that may affect the safety of rope access operations.
The site supervisor will conduct a thorough review of the existing risk assessment to determine if the proposed amendment introduces new hazards or alters existing ones. This review must be documented.
The site supervisor will consult with competent persons, such as a qualified rope access technician or health and safety advisor, to evaluate the feasibility and safety implications of the proposed amendment.
Once reviewed, the amendment must be authorised by the project manager or designated health and safety officer. Authorisation is contingent upon ensuring that all safety measures are maintained or enhanced.
All authorised amendments must be communicated to the entire rope access team during a toolbox talk before work commences. This ensures that all personnel are aware of the changes and understand their roles and responsibilities.
The amended method statement must be updated in writing, with a clear record of the changes made, the date of amendment, and the names of those authorising and implementing the changes.
