Special permits
A specific permit is required for the launch and recovery of the Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). Personnel must be briefed on the location and condition of ACMs and instructed to avoid any activities that could disturb these materials.
All personnel involved in the operations must receive asbestos awareness training. This training should cover the identification of ACMs, potential health risks, and emergency procedures in case of accidental disturbance. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as disposable overalls and respiratory protective equipment (RPE), must be provided and worn when working in proximity to ACMs.
In the event of accidental disturbance of ACMs, operations must cease immediately, and the area should be evacuated. Protective measures against exposure to harsh weather conditions, including UV radiation, wind, and cold temperatures, must be enforced. Personnel should be equipped with appropriate clothing and sun protection. Regular breaks in sheltered areas should be scheduled to mitigate exposure risks.
Operations involving RIBs may expose personnel to significant noise and vibration levels. Hearing protection must be provided and worn as necessary. Equipment maintenance schedules should include checks to minimise excessive vibration.
Tasks involving the launch and recovery of RIBs require careful attention to manual handling techniques. Personnel must receive training in safe lifting practises, and mechanical aids should be utilised where possible to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.
